The successes made by private media organisations in Nigeria, especially the electronic media has attracted the attention of a cross section of eminent Nigerians in the academia, media personalities, business technocrats and politicians, as they have formed a block to host the "first annual lecture" in honour of Chief Raymund Aleogho Dokpesi, titled: "The Role of Private Electronic Media to National Development"

In a statement jointly signed by the chairman, board of trustees of the group, Dr. Paul Akintolore and the lecture chairman, Mr. Chris Ebuetse, on the Chief Dokpesi, chairman, DAAR Communications Plc, was a private initiative by eminent Nigerians "who so much believe on the chief as an institution considering the elaborate role and time he spent in building the electronic media in the last one and half decades".

According to the statement, the annual lecture represents the interest of posterity because those who make history do not by themselves write history "but that it beheld on them as citizens to create a historic space to people like Chief Dokpesi, who they said has played a major role, particularly in the development of private electronic media, as founder of the African Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power Radio Station, which they said have brought "barrage of activities ands crack open revolutionary changes in media practice in Nigeria".

According to them the lecture was intended to create some wealth of knowledge on issues of national development and electronic broadcasting in Nigeria.

Among the eminent scholars expected to present papers at the First Annual Lecture billed to hold at Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja, on October 24, 2008, are Professor Adigun, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Shobowale, Head of Department, Mass Communication, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State.

Others are Senator Smart Adeyeni, former NUJ President and the Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, among others.

According to the statement, this year’s event would be laced with honourary recognition awards to some states governors, companies and individuals who have contributed immensely in developing private electronic media practice in Nigeria.
