Disturbed by what it termed as unfair representation of Nasarawa State indigenes at the federal level, the Nasarawa State Government has expressed its determination to liaise with relevant agencies so as to address the imbalance.

Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State stated this when the federal commissioner representing Nasarawa State at the federal character commission, Alhaji Muhammadu Ari Gwaska, paid him a courtesy call, last week, in Lafia.

Governor Doma said that the Nasarawa State Government would do everything possible to redress the situation of under-representation of Nasarawa State indigenes at the federal level.

"We have not received fair and equitable representation in appointments and employments into federal ministries, companies, boards, and parastatals," the governor lamented.

He called on Alhaji Ari Gwaska to use his position to address the situation, saying, "I am optimistic that you will justify the confidence reposed in you."

The governor, however, called on the people of Nasarawa State to "work hard, stretch their hands and take the appointments into the federal level", assuring that the state government would do everything possible to ensure that Nasarawa State’s quota at the federal level was filled by indigenes of the state.

Governor Doma who acceded to a request for operational vehicle by the state office of the commission, pledged to provide "a befitting car and few motorcycles to support the commission in carrying out its duties effectively."

He assured that the state government would not relent in its efforts in providing conducive working environment for the federal agencies and parastatals operating in the state, adding that the state government would furnish the commission’s secretariat and support the office with monthly allocation for its smooth operations."

Earlier, Alhaji Muhammadu Gwaska, told the governor that, "Nasarawa State is under represented in the federal establishments at the national level."

He said he was ready to ensure that Nasarawa State’s quota was filled by the indigenes of the state.

Alhaji Gwaska promised to liaise with the Offices of the Secretary to the State government (SSG), Head of Service and the civil service commission in the state to see "that awareness of existing opportunities in all spheres of public services was created and qualified indigenes of the state encouraged to avail themselves of such opportunities".

He applauded Governor Doma for his performance in the past fifteen (15) months, assuring that the state office of the commission would work hard to complement the efforts of the state government.
