Kaduna State Government has awarded two contracts worth N354 million to improve water supply within Kaduna town and environs.

The state commissioner for water resources, Engineer Tsahiru Bako while speaking shortly after the contract signing ceremony explained that the state government was committed to improving water supply throughout the state.

According to him, Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo would continue to place emphasis on projects that would have meaningful impact on the people to ensure that the people of the state enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He warned that the state government would blacklist any contractor who did not stick to contractual agreement and further called on the contractors to ensure early completion of the projects.

While speaking, the General Manager of Kaduna Sate Water Board (KSWB), Engr. Hassan Mohammed explained that the first contract was aimed at improving water supply to the Nigeria Air Force Base, and was awarded to Bran and Lubbe at the cost of N169.3 million with a completion period of six months.

He said the work entailed rehabilitation of the existing dam, construction of treatment plant of 2.4 million liters daily capacity, construction of elevated reservoir of 200 cubic meters capacity as well as construction of rising and gravity mains.

Engr. Mohammed said the other contract for Detailed Engineering Design for the expansion of Kaduna Metropolis Water Supply was awarded to JB Gauf at the cost of N184.9 million with a completion period of 12 months.

The work, according to him included the design of a new dam, impounding reservoir, treatment plant, pumping main and extension of the distribution system.

Representatives of the two contractors expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and assured of successful execution in accordance with the contract agreements.
