LOKOJA: Minister threatens to revoke mini port contract

The minister of state, water transportation, Prince John Emeka Okechukwu has charged the contractor handling Lokoja mini port to expedite action on the contract risk its revocation.
The visibly troubled chairman of Fobi Engineering limited, the construction company handling the project, Mr. E.O Efobi told the minister that the chip-filling machines which were to be used for the construction of the port would soon arrive the country.
The minister who expressed disappointment over the slow pace of the work said the 18 months deadline still stand and any breach of the term of contract would not be tolerated.
Prince Okechukwu ordered that the company should forward its work schedule to the ministry within seven days so as to enable the entire stakeholders study it together with the company to ascertain its seriousness.
The minister who promised regular supervision of the project told the contactor that the Federal Government would not hesitate to revoke the contract if the work was not properly handled.
It would be recalled that contract for the construction of Lokoja mini port was awarded by the immediate past administration of president Olusegun Obasanjo since June last year at the cost of 2.9billion naira to Fobi Engineering limited of which 25% of the contractual amount was paid.
