Director of Personnel Management (DPM) of Akwanga Local Governemnt Council of Nasarawa state, Mr. Jerry S. Santas has given the allotees of spaces the Akwanga Market permanent site till the end of September to complete the building of their stores and shops or have them revoked.

The DPM also disclosed that the council would soon carry out demolition of illegal structures in Akwanga town in order to give it a new look saying that the town is centrally located and anything that would deface it would not be tolerated.

In a recent meeting organized by the local council with the allotees, security agencies and traditional rullers in the area, Mr. Santas directed the work department of the council to display the construction plan to the allotees to enable them start work immediately saying any allotee who does not complete the building of his or her store within stipulated time might lose it.

The DPM further directed all those selling sugar Cain, yam, groundnut, maize, genuine coin and other products in the market to move to the market’s permanent site along Wamba by-pass road.

Mr. Santas also anoneed that immediately traders were moved from the Old market to the permanent site, a befitting palace of Chun Mada would be built.

He also said that the decision to move to the permanent site was part of measures taken by the local council to decongest Akwanga town and avoid incensant cases of accident experienced adding that, the relocating would pave way for smooth economic activities and hitch free movement of people and motorists within the town.

The DPM who expressed concerned over the indiscriminate sale of crops by farmers just to drink alcohol saying this would bring about famine in the country.

He also called on traditional rulers to enlighten their people on the need to preserve their farm produce so as to avoid any regrettable situation in future.

Also speaking at the gathering the chairman of Akwanga Branch of the marketers Association, Mr. Mandalla Nkine observed that over the years similar measures were declared by the council but nothing was done to implement them hoping that this time around, the declared measures would the implement.

Mr. Nkine further assured of the readiness of the traders to move to the market’s permanent site, if adequate security was provided.

He recalled that during the administration of the immediate part council chairman, Arch. Stanley Buba ten stores were demolished but that no compensation was paid to the affected persons and appealed to the DPM to do some thing about it.

In his remarks, the Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Mr. Eko Eko Out said that anybody caught parking his or her vehicle by the road side would be fined N10,000 adding that a mobile court would soon be established to try offending motorists.
