The president of All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Nasarawa State chapter, Mr. Patrick Ogah, has commended Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State for giving priority to the education sector in the state.
He also described the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca Isaac Umaru, by the governor as state commissioner of education as satisfactory "owing to her past track records and experience", adding that Dr. Rebecca before her recent appointment was one of his active members.
The ANCOPSS chairman who made the commendation in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Newsday in his office in Nasarawa recently, stressed that the governor's good gestures in the education sector were a welcome development "owing to the fact that education is the bedrock of meaningful development in any society".
Continuing, he said, "ANCOPSS Nasarawa State chapter wishes to thank Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma for setting up a special committee to look into the fundamental way forward in the state education sector.  I am also assuring the committee members that we are ready to contribute our inputs if the need arises".
According to him, "Again, on behalf of ANCOPSS Nasarawa State chapter I want to thank Governor Doma for appointing one of our dedicated members, Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca Isaac Umaru, to serve in the capacity of state commissioner of education.  We are pleased and satisfied with the level of her work and meaningful contributions since she became commissioner".
Mr. Ogah further revealed that ANCOPSS Nasarawa State chapter was doing well at the moment, adding that the association is proposing to build a permanent secretariat at Lafia, the state capital.
He further warned his members against acts capable of tarnishing the association's image, especially in the area of examination malpractices, saying that necessary machineries have been put in place to punish any secondary school principal found wanting in that regard.
Mr. Ogah, who is also the principal of Government College, Nasarawa, thanked the media for publicizing ANCOPSS activities in the state, describing the media as the number one modern day means of creating awareness in all ramifications.
