Keffi Local Government Council has presented a memorandum before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) committee on constituency delineation demanding for the creation of seven additional electoral wards out of the present 10 in the local government area.

Similarly, the council has also demanded for the creation of additional 104 polling units out of the present 68 in the area.

Presenting the demand before the INEC committee on delineation of electoral constituencies at the multi purpose hall of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, the spokesman of the group who is also the council’s Director of Personnel Management (DPM), Alhaji Yusuf Ahmad said that the demand was based on the proximity of the area to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory which he said has resulted in the increase in population in the area.

The DPM observed that the demolition exercise by the authorities of the Federal Capital Territory has made Keffi to witness an astronomical growth in population in recent times.

He also noted that, the establishment of some key institutions of higher learning like Nasarawa State university, Federal medical centre, school of health technology and Federal Government college all in Keffi also contributed immensely to the large increase in population of the area.

Alhaji Ahmad who further attributed the high population in the area to the proliferation of financial institutions in Keffi town expressed his hope that the council request for additional wards and polling units would be given the desired attention and approval in order to avail the people of the area more opportunities to actively participate in the democratic process.
