The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) Adamawa State chapter has decried the reduction of the tenure of local government councils chairmen in the state by the State House of Assembly, urging the House to rescind its decision.

The conference made it`s position known at a press briefing  held last week in Yola, the state capital, describing the development as " unacceptable to the CNPP and not in the best interest our people".

Spokesman of the conference, Mr. Arthimas S. Guri stated  that, the CNPP Adamawa State chapter was of the view that, the House of Assembly in the state should return to status quo of two and half (25) years for elected local council officials in the state, so as to give them reasonable time frame to impact positively on the lives of the citizenry at the gressroots.

It would be recalled that, the state Assembly members passed a legislation last month reducing the tenure of local government council chairmen and councilors from two and half (25) years to one(1) year  in office.

Nigerian Newsday investigation revealed that, the motion moved by member representing Jada constiency,  Honourable Sanusi Faruk Jauro for the reduction of tenure of the 21 councils chairmen  in the state was meant to check mate corruption at that level of government.

However, the conference called upon individuals ‘fueling the crisis between the state executive and legislature’ to desist from such act in the interest of peace and progress in the state.

A source who commented on the development on the condition of anonymity in Yola said, "the Honourable members in the state Assembly were only on a vendetta mission since their candidates lost out again in the recently concluded PDP primaries for council chairmen last month.

Also commenting, member representing Fufore, Song Federal constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Aminu H. Ribadu described the tenure reduction of council chairmen in Adamawa as ‘ unfortunate and unacceptable’.

Honourable Aminu Ribadu advised the legislators in the House of Assembly to allow Governor Nyako’s administration to work for the electorates that voted him as chief servant of the state, stressing that the former governor Boni Haruna’s regime did nothing to improve the welfare of the people compared to Governor Nyako’s  giant stride in transforming the state.
