The University of Abuja rcently expelled six students for alleged cultism. Announcing their expulsion, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub said a total of 16 students have been expelled from the institution for cult related activities within the last five months.

The expelled students include Dayo Oluwafemi, a Diploma in Law student, Udoye Chukwudi John a 300 level Public Administration student, Chukwu Henry Onuoha, 100 level Business Administration, Habib Abu, 400 level Geography student, and James Ozioma, Diploma in Banking and Finance student. Parading the expelled students, Prof. Yaqub said that they were arrested in an uncompleted building in a primary school in Bako, Kwali area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja. The expelled students were alleged to be members of the Black Axe cult group. Prof. Yaqub said the university also expelled 42 students for cult related activities in 2006 and warned students aspiring to join cult groups to jettisson such aspiration as those caught would f ace the full wrath of the law. He also enjoined those who are already members of cult groups to come out publicly and denounce their membership before the school authority apprehends them.
