Jigawa State Government in a bid to meet the global challenges on information technology has expended money worth 300 million on Informatics Institute, Kazaure.
The commissioner for education, science and technology, Professor Rukkaiyat Ahmed Rufa’i, gave the affirmation during the inauguration of the governing board members of the institute recently.
She said, Jigawa state government has expended over 100 million on salvaging the moribund sector last year while 200 million was spend in the year under review for the renovation of higher institution of learning in the state.
According to her, government of Jigawa state has taken an elaborate measure in making computer education a policy in the state especially within the circle of public servant, adding that the institution has graduated 7000 students since inception of the school which was an affiliated to Singapore informatics institute.
She further the intention of the state government of localizing the institution whose result was not giving recognition in Nigeria," the institute runs only Diploma and Advance Diploma and with the new development, the school will also runs Degree programme as government entered into agreement with National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the accreditation of the institution so as to attain national recognition".
Professor Rukkaiyat aver that computer education will be accorded an utmost priority by ensuring that civil servants in the state acquire the new approach in information technology, she opined that additional computer training centre will be established in Dutse the state capital to bring their numbers to three with the already two at Roni and Hadejia .
She task the newly constituted Governing Board members to strive towards bring new ground in to the institution, she charged them to ensure that admission into the school is devoid of gender discrimination by creating a level playing field for all.
Also speaking at the inauguration is the Rector of the institute, Mr. George Kong appreciate the gesture of the state governor for renewing his contract for additional four years.
Kong said he will not condone any interference from any nook and cranny of the state in the cause of discharging his responsibility to the state.
The chairman of the Governing Board, Professor A. T. Garki, commended the state government for it foresight in enhancing the institute," information technology is a breakthrough in the present day world of information technology.
