The objectives of setting up the College include to offer courses leading to the Nigeria Certificate in Education through a three-year academic and professional course which, on successful completion, candidates qualify as teachers in primary schools and secondary and teachers training colleges.

* YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT:

The College was established in January, 1977

* LOCATION:

The school is situated in AKWANGA Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, 2kms along Jos Road, Akwanga.

* OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE.

The objectives of setting up the College are as stated in the edict establishing the College. These are:

1. To offer courses leading to the Nigeria Certificate in Education through a three-year academic and professional course which, on successful completion, candidates qualify as teachers in primary schools and secondary and teachers training colleges.

2. To act as a centre for research into the various areas of educational theory and practice;

3. To mount from time to time in-service vacation courses for serving teachers.

* MAN POWER PRODUCED

The institution is aimed at producing middle level manpower, to carter mainly for primary and junior secondary and teacher training institutions.

The institution has since its inception in 1977 been able to train 22,694 qualified teachers who now occupy various positions across the country.

* GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A. PRE-NCE

1. PRE – NCE SCIENCE & VOCATIONAL SUBJECTS

i. WASC / GCE (O'L) with at least four passes in English Language, Maths and two other subjects in science related subjects, or

ii. Teachers Grade II certificate with passes in English Language, Maths/Arithmetic process, general/ Integrated science and any Science – related subjects such as Health Science, Agricultural Science, Applied Biology, Home Economics etc, or

iii. SSCE/GCE (O'L) with four passes at a sitting or five at two sitting including English Language, Maths and two other relevant science subjects, or

iv. Federal Trade Certificate with at least a pass in four Academic subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Science, or

v. T.C II certificate with at least four passes in English, Maths, and Science related subjects.

 

2. PRE- NCE BUSINESS STUDIES

i. SSCE/GCE (O'L) with four passes at two sitting including English Language, Mathematics and Business related subjects, or

ii. Teachers Grade II Certificate with at least a pass in English

Language, Maths/ Arithmetic's processes, Integrated Science, Geography or Social Studies.

3. PRE – NCE NIGERIAN LANGUAGES.

i. WASC/GCE (O'L) SSCE with passes in four subjects at a sitting, one of which must be at credit level in either English Language, English Literature or any one of the three major Nigerian Languages (Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba) or

ii. WASC/GCE (O'L) with at least five passes at two sitting including at least credit in English Language or English Literature or a Nigerian Language or

iii. A complete Teachers Grade II Certificate.

4. PRE-NCE FRENCH

i. WASC/GCE (O'L) SSC with passes in at least four subjects at a sitting one of which must be at credit level and including English Language or English Literature or

ii. A complete Teachers Grade II Certificate.

B. NCE PROGRAMME.

i. Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or GCE (O'L) with Passes in five subjects including English Language, three of which must be at credit levels in the same sitting or four credit at two sittings. Two of the credit must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer. Credits in English and / or Mathematics may be a requirement in some courses.

ii. for candidate wishing to offer courses in vocational and Technical Education, RSA or City and Guilds, intermediate certificate or Federal Craft Training certificate with credit merit in at least four subjects are acceptable.

iii. A grade II Teachers Certificate (T. C. II) with credits or merits in three subjects, two of which must be relevant to the course thecourse the candidate wishes to offer. Credit/merit in English Language and / or Mathematics may be a requirement in some Courses.

iv. Associateship certificate in Education awarded by an approved institution in Nigeria or abroad is also an acceptable qualification.
v. Successful candidates in the Pre- NCE final Examinations who also take and succeed, in selection examinations organised by an
accredited body would also be qualified for admission.
vi. All candidates wishing to be considered for admission must enroll for and write the selection examinations organised by an accredited body such as JAMB.
vii. It should be noted that the College may in addition to all of the above, administer their own elimination tests and /or interviews for some courses.
