Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Nasarawa state council, Comrade Asoloko Maku has challenged the newly elected executive members of Nigeria Union of Pension (NUP) to make peace and unity their cardinal point to enable the union cater adequately for the members.

Comrade Maku also said that leadership belonged to good and those who have found themselves in position of authority should serve the people honestly.

Comrade Maku, who was represented by the NLC state secretary comrade Adamu Salihu Aladoga at the 2nd delegates conference of NUP called on the members to support their new leadership.

He appealed to the officials to mobilize their members to contribute their ideas towards the development of the union.

He urged the leaders to ensure that all retirees were mobilized to participate actively in the affairs of the union.

He commended the outgoing excos of NUP for the maturity and fast resolution of the recent crisis in the union and appealed to them to support the new officials.

On his part, the Senior Assistant General Secretary of NUP, Abuja, Comrade Ehada Mohammed also challenged the new excos in the state to ensure better welfare condition for the members.

Comrade Mohammed said the issue of gender balance in the union was a thing of concern and urged members to encourage women retirees to actively participate in the activities of the union.

He frowned at the attempt by local government pensioners to form a parallel union.

He also commended Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma for his support to the union.

He advised the new officials to enlist the support of very important pensioners in the activities of the union so as to make the union stronger.

Earlier, the former state chairman of NUP, Comrade S.O. Imama appealed to the state governor Aliyu Akwe Doma to implement and pay the 15 percent arrears and 12 ½ percent approved by the Obansajo’s administration.

Comrade Imama also called on the state government to provide the union with a vehicle and a befitting state secretariat.

He further appealed to government to also sponsor members to go on pilgrimage, and consider appointing members into the pension commission.
