The sleepy town of Binzom, in Anguwan Baki District of Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was last week thrown into confusion after a young man killed his wife and mother.

Mr. Amos Machu, popularly known as "Famous", who later hanged himself to death, was said to have used an axe to kill both his wife and mother.

The incident, according to neighbours of the deceased, occurred after a serious quarrel ensued between Amos and his pregnant wife simply identified as "Yawo", in the night of the fateful day.

Yawo, according to the sources, decided to return to her parent’s house following the misunderstanding, but she was prevailed upon by her mother in-law and another woman to remain in her matrimonial home.

Yawo was said to have opted that day to sleep in the same room with her mother in-law, leaving her husband would harm if she slept in his room.

But Amos, who has vowed to deal with his wife, crept into his mother’s room in the night while she and his wife were asleep, hitting his wife on the head with an axe. She died before taking her to the hospital.

On learning that her son has killed his wife, Amos suddenly turned against his mother, hitting her with the axe in her stomach. His mother, like his wife, also died on the spot.

Our sources further said that Amos’ younger brother who was attracted to the scene on hearing their mother screaming, had to run for his dear life after "Famous" threatened to deal with him, too.

It was, however, learnt that the body of Yawo’s husband who disappeared when people started trooping to the scene, was found hanging in front of his own room, the following morning.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Kafanchan division, Malam Usman Galadima, who confirmed the incident, said the police have commenced investigations into the incident.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the district head of Ungwan Baki, Mr. Williams Gimba, described the event as unfortunate.

He, however, appealed to the people of the district and the relations of the dead women to take heart and remain calm.

According to the royal father, "this is a strange thing that has never happened in my kingdom", appealing to the youths to "shun drug abuse and beware of the kind of company they keep".

The dead bodies of the two women have since been laid to rest according to Christian rites.

However, Amos’ dead body was said to have been dragged to the forest and thrown into a ditch.
