Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently address the injustices meted out on the people of Nasarawa State by the faulty delineation of electoral constituencies.

The Governor made this call while receiving members of the INEC committee on electoral delimitation who are in Nasarawa State to hold stakeholders interactive sessions.

Pointing out the many injustices which have been meted out on the state over the years, Governor Doma stated that this was a rare opportunity for him to bring to light, once more, the political deprivation suffered by the people of Nasarawa State as a result of miscarriage of justice by the 1998 delimitation exercise.

Among the many instances of injustice pointed out by the Governor was the Nasarawa North Senatorial district where the federal constituency is conterminous with the senatorial district. Also, there are the cases of Wamba and Keana Local Governments which have only one House of Assembly seat each.

Accordingly, the Governor spelt out the requests of the people of the State to include the following:
  • Five (5) additional Federal Constituencies
  • 10 additional State constituencies
  • 395 registration areas, and
  • 608 additional polling units
Earlier, the Team leader had assured that Nasarawa State had clear cases that will be addressed during the exercise.
