Agency to provide education to all by 2015

The Nasarawa State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education has assured of its determination toward achieving the target of providing education for all by 2015.
The executive director of the agency, Mr. Masha Ojikpa Moses stated this at the opening of a one-day training of facilitators and members of technical committee on literacy through radio programme held in Akwanga, recently.
He said the new initiative in providing mass literacy through the radio, was aimed at providing access to basic adult literacy to those in remote areas.
He said literacy by radio programme was an initiative of the National Commission for Mass literacy supported by United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisations (UNESCO) and United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) with the state government.
The executive director commended the collaborating partners, national com-mission, UNESCO and UNICEF for their support in seeing to the realization of the programme adding that the agency would do everything to ensure its success.
Mr. Masha appealed to the communities selected for the pilot programme not to misuse the opportunity given to them, adding that government would not allow the programe to fail.
He said radio was chosen among various media for the project because it is a powerful means of communicating ideas, information, and knowledge, adding that not only do majority of the people listen to radio more than any other means of communication outlet, but that it is affordable.
