The Nasarawa State commissioner of education, science and technology, Mrs Rebecca I. Umaru has called on communities in the state to exhibit greater interest in educational development of their respective areas for the overall improvement of the state educational sector.

Mrs Umaru made the cal at the 2008/2009 Jenkwe Development Area almanac launching held recently at Agyaragu, headquarters of the development area.

The commissioner said education was the bedrock for meaningful development, and appealed to the people of Jenkwe to work hard for the improvement of education in the area.

The commissioner advised the people to respect teachers and ensure that the necessary conducive atmosphere was provided them to give in their best.

Mrs Umaru however, the appealed to teachers in Nasarawa state to call off their strike in the interest of the state, and go back to the classroom to resume normal teaching.

The commissioner said that the state government was ready to implement whatever decision reached by the federal government and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) on the issue of the Teachers Salary Structure (TSS).

She commended the education secretary of Jenkwe Development Area for the bold steps taken to develop education adding that the launching of the almanac was the right thing to do to boost education.

The education secretary of Jenkwe Development Area, Mr Musa Samuel Agga commended Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma for supporting the development of education in all ramifications.

Mr. Agga pointed out that the education reformed committee set up by the state government was a manifestation of the government desire to improve the quality of education in the state.

He commended the effort of the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for generally supporting education in the state.

Mr. Agga called on the government to provide schools in Jenkwe Development Area with furniture, teaching aids and other equipment that would encourage adequate learning.
