Cattle rearers in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have been called upon to go about their normal business peacefully.

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed made the call recently while commissioning the Akwanga cattle market situated along Keffi road.

Alhaji Mohammed also enjoined the people of Akwanga local government council especially the Fulanis to patronize the cattle market, so as to boost economic activities in the area.

He commended the initiators of the market, pointing out that it would go a long way in encouraging the people to embrace cattle rearing.

The Speaker observed that the Akwanga cattle market could attract as many customers as those that patronize the Lafia cattle market.

Also speaking at the occasion, the member representing Akwanga south constituency in the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, Hon Philip Avawa Gyunka said the coming into being of the cattle market would surely boost economic activities in the area.

The lawmaker stated that the cattle market at Akwanga was a lawmark in the development of the local government council.

He then called on the people of Akwanga Local Government council to embrace farming so as to effectively sustain their livelihood as well as contribute to the economic development of the local government and the state in general.

In his brief remarks at the occasion, the Director of Personnel Management (DPM) of Akwanga local government council, Mr. Jerry Sautas commended the Fulanis for setting up the market and assured them of the local government assistance.

The DPM also urged the people of the local government council to start rearing animals, such as cows, and goats in order to boost the economic activities of the area.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Cattle Rearers Association in Akwanga local government council, Mallam Idris Yahu said Tuesdays and Fridays were the days fixed for transactions in the market.

In a related development, the member representing Akwanga south constituency in the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, Hon Philip Aruwa Gyunka has paid a condolence visit on the family of Late Imam of Akwanga, Mallam Idris Aliyu who died after a brief Illness.

He urged the family of the Late Imam to consider the death of their father as an act of God.

Hon Gyunka also prayed that God should grant the family of the deceased the courage and the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
