Kano State Government has refuted an allegation that it has placed elected councilors, wives on N50, 000 monthly salary, saying the allegation lacked any iota of truth.

The state government said the information originated from a source (name withheld) who sought to be appointed into public office in the state but was not given the post.

"The source therefore decided to frame the above allegation to ridicule the state government".

Disclosing this  to journalists in Kano, Alhaji Sule Yau Sule , director of press to the state governor , Malam Ibrahim Shekarau , said the purported story carried by the media (not Nigerian Newsday) was aimed at embarrassing the state government

After thorough investigation conducted, according to the director of press, it was discovered that the media that carried the information was bias in its report.

His words, "the state government has no legal right to fix any salary whatsoever to anybody, salary allocation to staff is the responsibility of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission".

According to him, "there was no circular emanating from the state government in respect of the alleged salary fixing for councilors wives, so we wonder where the source got the information".

No state government has the right to fix salary for its staff in total disregard for due process, and is the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission, he restated.

Alhaji Sule Yau said appropriate step would be taken to bring to book all those involved in peddling the allegation.
