Political office holders, aspirants and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters have been urged to remain calm and law abiding in order to ensure the survival of the country’s democracy.

The PDP national vice chairman North Central, Alhaji Yusuf A. Ayitogo made the call in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Newsday, last week, in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

Alhaji Y. Ayitogo, a former Nasarawa State PDP chairman, urged local government chairmanship and councillorship aspirants and their supporters to shun violence as they campaign for the forthcoming local government polls.

Alhaji Ayitogo appealed to the aspirants and their supporters to exercise more patience as they await the day for the polls.

According to him, the state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma would soon convene the party’s caucus meeting after which the date for local government elections in Nasarawa State would be announced.

Alhaji Ayitogo enjoined the PDP supporters to unite and ensure the party wins all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

While urging those who lost in their bid to secure positions to join hands with their opponents in order to move the state forward, Alhaji Ayitogo called on the political office holders to serve their electorate better.

The chairman advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians as thugs to intimidate their opponents.

Reacting to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s constituencies delimitation exercise, Alhaji Ayitogo called on the electoral commission to create seven (7) or six (6) federal and state constituencies in Nasarawa State to enable the state to meet-up with other states. He said Nasarawa State has grown, such that it is presently underrepresented at the National Assembly.
