The Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has revealed plans to establish an orphanage centre in Nasarawa State to carter for abandoned children.
Already, the organization has constituted a committee for the take-off of the project.
President of FOMWAN in the state, Hajiya Zainab Abdulmumini, dropped the hint recently, when she led officials of the association on a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed, in his office in Lafia.
Hajiya Zainab said the visit was to congratulate the speaker on the achievement recorded by the Assembly under his leadership in the past one year and to intimate him on the activities of FOMWAN as the umbrella body of all Muslim women in the country.
She pointing out that the association used to conduct Tafsir (commentary on the teachings of the Qur’an) during the month of Ramadan (fasting period), adding that FOMWAN was also involved in USAID sponsored programmes.
Hajiya Zainab also said that as part of the organisation’s humanitarian activities, members of FOMWAN pay regular visits to the sick ones in hospitals to present gifts and sympathise with them.
The FOMWAN president said the association has also treated one psychiatric patient found roaming the streets, adding that the mad woman has since resumed her normal life.
The FOMWAN president called on the speaker to intervene in tackling the problem of hawking by teenagers in the state.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed, expressed his appreciation to the FOMWAN officials for the visit. He commended the association for its laudable projects, especially in helping towards the successful implementation of the 13-point agenda of the Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma-led administration.
The Speaker, who promised to construct two classroom blocks for FOMWAN in Nasarawa town, assured the association that he would use his good offices to ensure that the law on street hawking was enforced.
