The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed has refuted allegations that he shunned former local government officials when they visited him recently in his office to seek his support for the payment of their severance allowances.
The Speaker who was speaking shortly after the House of Assembly passed a resolution on the payment of the allowances, denied referring to the former council officials or their request as rubbish, saying he only cautioned the former councilors against taking the government to court on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the executive governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, to pay the outstanding severance allowances due to former local government chairmen, councilors and special advisers.
This followed a motion moved by Honourable Sidi Bako, representing Obi one constituency, who argued that the payment of the allowances to the affected officials would go along way in reducing the difficulties being faced by them.
Contributing to the debate, the member representing Lafia North constituency, Honourable Mu’azu Adamu Adogi, said the resolution was necessary in order to avail the state governor of the enabling law that would back the payment of the allowances.
Also in his submission, the member representing Wamba constituency, Honourable Lagi Innocent, suggested that a committee should be set up to supervise the payment exercise as soon as the government made the funds available.
