Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Rebecca Isaac Umaru has called for greater commitment in the implementation of the gender policy in such a way as to ensure that it is imbibed by the operators of all public institutions.

The commissioner who was represented by the Director of Science and Technology, Dr. Mamud B. Umaru stated this at the opening ceremony of a two-day sensitization workshop organised by the ministry of education, science and technology in collaboration with United Nations International Cultural Education Fund (UNICEF).

The theme of the workshop "The policy makers on Implementation of Gender Policy on Basic Education, Integrated early child development, integrated Qur’anic education guidelines and school health policy."

Mrs. Rebecca said the workshop was organised to shape school management and child development and to promote good health for better learning.

She reminded the participants that, they were carefully selected to work out principles and implementation strategy for ensuring gender equality.

She commended UNICEF for its support to the state through regular disbursement of funds and distribution of items towards the educational advancement in the state.

Earlier, the UNICEF chief coordinator, Alhaji Shehu Musa II stated that, UNICEF intended to promote equal access and participation on basic education through enrolment of both boys and girls in primary schools.

The coordinator commended the Nasarawa state government for its immediate action in the release of counterpart funds of GCC for year 2008.

The workshop was attended by a number of dignitaries during which many papers were presented to the participants.
