Director of Personnel Management (DPM) Lafia North Development Area, Shaibu, Nasarawa State, Alhaji Shaibu .A. Ojah has said social amenities at the area’s headquarters, have been over-stretched due to influx of people to the town.
Alhaji Ojah said stable power supply and availability of land for people to build both residential and commercial houses have been responsible for the influx of people to the town.
According to him due to the rapid growth in population of the town, facilities such as drinking water, clinics, schools among others needed to be improved.
He explained that due to the high population of the town a general hospital was needed to meet the increasing demand of health services by the people.
He said both primary and secondary schools in the area also needed to be expanded.
Alhaji Ojah said for now most parents take the risk of transporting their wards to Lafia to attend primary and secondary schools.
Other areas of need, according to the DPM include supply of more electric transformers to the town good roads network, and rehabilitation of schools and clinics in the area.
Alhaji Ojah commended the state government for posting a qualified medical doctor to the Shaibu clinic and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for citing some of its projects in Shabu.
He described the security situation in the area as "calm" but called on security operatives in the area not to relent.
He said the management of the development area under his headship had been able to pay 90% of staff claims.
A bus has also been provided which transports staff from Lafia to the council secretariat at the rate of N20 instead of N40.
Alhaji Ojah further commended Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma’s rural transformation scheme and his 13-point agenda.
