Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, has commended the Court of Appeal sitting in Jos, Plateau State for confirming the election of the Speaker of the Benue State Assembly, Terseer Tsumba, Senator George Akume and Benue State Assembly member Terkar Mamwoo.

The court of appeal, upturned the nullification of the elections of the trio by the tribunal which sat in Makurdi, the state capital.

Suswam described the development as a clear indication that there was something fundamentally wrong with the rulings of the Justice Uriri-led Benue State Election Petition Tribunal.

Suswam who made the remark at the Government House, Makurdi when Mr. Tsumba paid him a visit, questioned the way the Benue State Election Petition Tribunal nullified the elections in Benue State maintaining that the nullifications created the impression that there were no elections in the state.

Governor Suswam expressed his joy with the decisions of the appeal court maintaining that its maturity at interpreting the laws resulted in the upturning of the nullification of the three elections held in the state.

Said he: the reversal of the three judgments that nullified the elections of the representatives of the Benue people, prove that the people actually voted the Peoples Democratic Party into power".

He expressed his optimism that a greater percentage of the rulings of the Benue State Election Tribunal would be reversed by the court of appeal, stressing that the rulings at the tribunal were not based on strict compliance to the tenets of the law.

"Majority of the cases would be reversed at the court of appeal because the judges at that level are more matured and they would dispassionately look at the cases on their merit and reach a decision based on the tenets of the law," he said.
