As part of community development service, a youth corp members serving at the Nasarawa State Government House in Lafia, has donated items worth thousands of naira to the Lafia-based Joyce Maimuna Katai Orphanage/Motherless Babies Home.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the donor, Miss Fatima Bani Al-Maja, said the donation was part of her contribution to the needy.
"These children who are not privileged to have the care and support of parents as most of us do, depend on the orphanage and the rest of us to take care of their daily needs," she said.
Miss Al-Maja called on the rich and privileged members of the society as well as the religious bodies to support the needy.
Items donated included pampers, tissue papers, detergents, dettol, cartons of indomie noddles and biscuits.
In another development, a Lafia-based community leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Zakari, has called on youth corp members to serve deligently during their service year.
He made the call in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Newsday on the occasion of Nasarawa State Corpers’ Week 2008.
Alhaji Zakari who is also the Zanuwan Lafia, said corp members should endeavour to give a good account of themselves during and after their servie.
He commended the Federal Government for sustaining the National Youth service Scheme, calling on the government further strengthen the scheme.
