The FCT Administration has set up a standing committee to review maternal deaths in all its hospitals.
The FCT Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, who made this known last week in Abuja, said the committee has been set up to identify avoidable deaths with a view to prevent reoccurrences.
Dr Umar stated that some of the maternal deaths can conveniently be avoided if necessary steps could be taken on time.
"A standing committee on the review of maternal deaths in our hospitals has been put in place in the Health Management Board to identify avoidable deaths with a view of preventing reoccurrences," he disclosed.
According to him, the FCT Administration has also commenced full implementation of pharmaceutical care services in all FCTA hospitals to reduce mortality and morbidity due to drug related problems.
Dr. Umar said government will provide oxygen plants and incinerators for some of our hospitals to bring them to appreciable standard befitting the status of the Federal Capital Territory.
He revealed that the FCT Administration also plans to construct new district hospitals to reduce pressure on the existing health institutions in the territory.
