The Nasarawa State police command last Wednesday, paraded five suspected armed robbers and three illicit drug dealers.
Parading the suspects, the Police Commissioner, Alhaji Shehu Babalola said three of the armed- robbery suspects were arrested on June 11 at Garaku, in Kokona Local Government at about 2 am.
CP Babalola said the suspects, who were armed with dangerous weapons, were arrested shortly after they robbed their victim of N170, 000, He also said that one Usman Mohammed of Tudun-Gwandara, in Lafia, was also arrested last month for allegedly stabbing a man after robbing him of N23,500.
The police commissioner disclosed that on the 18th of last month, detectives in Keffi arrested one Christopher Chika-Dike and recovered one hammer, a knife and grounded pepper.
"The suspect robbed his victim in broad day light, having hit him with a heavy hammer." Also paraded were three suspects, including a woman, who were nabbed on June 16 at Nasarawa-Toto town with 28 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
Babalola, who stated that the command was poised to reduce crime, said the armed robbery suspects would soon be charged to court.
He said the drug suspects would be handed over to NDLEA for prosecution. He urged the public to always report acts of criminality to the police. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police recovered three locally- made pistols, two G3 machine guns, 64 rounds of live ammunition, four knives and one hammer, recovered from the suspects.(NAN)
