The people of Kadarko in Giza Development Area of Nasarawa State, have condemned the attitudes of youths in the area over the recent crises which engulfed the town.
The irate youths had during the rampage set ablaze property worth millions of naira.
An eye witness, Malam Mohammed Aminu, who spoke to Nigerian Newsday on the incident said, four houses and a car were set ablaze by the youths during the crisis, adding that the incident occurred after a meeting of the members of the Keana local government executive council of the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) held penultimate Saturday in Kadarko.
He alleged that the youths were sponsored by some disgruntled members of the party to disrupt the PDP meeting.
He said: "Over seventeen youths armed with guns and other weapons came in and disorganized the meeting after which they started shooting and burning peoples’ houses".
He alleged that the youths also destroyed houses belonging to the prominent people in the area.
Malam Mohammed Aminu while calling on the state government to arrest and prosecute all those involved in the crisis, appealed to the youths not to take laws into their own hands.
He urged the youths to respect constituted authorities at all times.
He said that what happened in Kadarko, was the first of its kind in the area, adding that "people know us in Kadarko as peace loving people, we have no bad records of this nature".
Nigerian Newsday gathered that about nine youths suspected to have participated in the riot have been arrested by the police.
The Nasarawa State police spokesperson could not, however, be reached to comment on the incident as at the time of going to press.
