At exactly 11.00am today, Monday, 01 October 2007, the ceremony marking the 47th Independence anniversary of Nigeria took off at the Lafia township stadium. The weather was good, the crowd in a joyful mood. The people were happy to witness another occasion of celebrations.

Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma led the people of the state to witness the independence celebration and he took the salute at the march past which was held to commemorate the occasion.

Nasarawa State has the added advantage of sharing the same birthday with Nigeria because it was created on the 1st of October, 1996. At a speech at the occasion, Govenor Akwe Doma called on the people of the state to always remember the sacrifices of the founding fathers of the state and to ensure that they always remained focussed in their development plans. He said his mission was to take Nasarawa State to greater heights.

The occasion was attended by prominent citizens of the state.
