Eggon Community Secondary School, Nasarawa Eggon in Nasarawa state has emerged winner of the schools debate competition titled "The politics of Ethnicity Slows down Nigeria’s Development" which was organized by Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS-TV).

The competition which was keenly contested had its winner with 32 points, carting away a grand prize of a television set, a DVD player and a trophy.

The second position went to Government Secondary school Wamba, with a total of 30 points and a prize of a television set and a DVD player. Government secondary school Gwadanyi came third and went home with television set.

The commissioner for Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Abudullahi Mustapha Aliyu who was guest speaker at the event, commended the sponsors of the programme and said such competition would help to boost educational development in the state.

According to the commissioner, preparations for this kind of competition would make student engage themselves in research hereby promoting wild reading habits meanwhile developing the mental capacity of the students.

While appealing to the school authorities, Alhaji Abdullah also called for more philanthropists to help sponsor such competitions in the state.

The sponsors of the event include the present speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed, and chairman, Sandayi Group of Companies, Alhaji Abubakar Musa.

Some special guests who attended the occasion were the representative of the commissioner for Education Science and Technology, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Chief Executive Officer/ managing Director, Nasarawa Publishing Company, Publishers of Nigerian Newsday who was represented by Abba M. Nuhu and the General Manager, Nasarawa Broadcasting service (NBS) Alhaji Musa Abdullahi.
