The FCT minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar has promised that the FCT Administration would continue to support the Nigeria Police Force to fish out criminals in the territory. He made the pledge last week when he paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro.

The Minister said the purpose of the unscheduled visit was to appreciate the gallant police constable who single-handedly apprehended an armed robbery suspect in the Asokoro District of the Federal Capital City.

Dr. Umar challenged other police officers and security agents in the Federal Capital Territory to brace up to new challenges of fighting crime and criminalities.

The Minister warned that criminals in the Federal capital Territory would have no hidden place, saying "the fight against criminals is total and must be won because we are more than ever determined to get rid of them from the entire 8,000 square kilometer of the Federal capital Territory."

The Minister rewarded the police constable, Mr. Jilasari Apagu, attached to Karu Division of the Nigeria Police Force with N100, 000 and recommended him to the Inspector General Police for special promotion.

Responding the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro appreciated the FCT Minister’s efforts in the fight against crime; adding that the police can not really function without adequate equipment and cooperation of the citizens.

It would be recalled that Constable Apagu had on June 28, 2008 apprehended with one baretta pistol with s/no. 202359066703 with eight rounds of live ammunition and the sum of one million, one hundred and ninety-seven thousand naira believed to be proceeds from an armed robbery operation.
