ABU commends state governments for assistance

Vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Shehu Usman Abdullahi has expressed appreciation to the various state governments for their contributions in moving the university forward.
The vice chancellor’s commendation was contained in a press release signed by the information officer of the university, Mr Bitrus Galmaka, a copy of which was made available to Nigerian Newsday in Kaduna.
Professor Shehu commended Kaduna State Government for donating the total sum of N16.3 million to the university to repair damages caused by students during the 27th and 28th September 2007 students violent demonstration.
He also commended the Zamfara State Government for laying the foundation stone of quarters to house staff on sabbatical leave in the university.
According to the vice chancellor the project was estimated to cost N78.9 million, explaining that the project comprises five blocks each made up of four self-contained apartments a large common apartment, a large room and access road network.
Professor Shehu expressed gratitude to Bauchi State Government for donating two brand new 25-seaters buses to the university aimed at boosting the institutions transport system “this is in addition to an earlier promise to provide new structures that would house the department of quantity survey and Geometrics Engineering”, he said.
The vice chancellor also thanked the Taraba State Government for its promise to build a 250 sitting capacity lecture theater in the faculty of pharmaceutical science of the university.
Professor Shehu then called on other well meaning Nigerians, alumni of the university, state governments and companies to come to the rescue of the university.
