FRSC to commence pilot scheme in Nasarawa

Disturbed by the increasing rate of road accidents in the country, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is to commence a pilot scheme in Nasarawa State which will fully utilize the national data base for enhanced security and restoration of the integrity of the national drivers’ licence.
The corps marshal and chief executive officer of the FRSC, Osita B. Chidoka disclosed this last week in Lafia while addressing members of the corps, officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), special marshals and journalists when he visited the state as part of his familiarization visit to state commands of the FRSC.
According to him, the scheme along side other positive changes line up for execution was aimed at achieving a dual objective of addressing issues that have constituted threats to safe driving as well as fully equip and improve the welfare of the commission for efficiency in service delivery.
He said that the era of corrupt practices and other ills in the commission was over and assured then the new management was now better prepared to protect lives and property on the roads.
While assuring the public of FRSC’s commitment to always improve and carry out its functions effectively, the corps marshal solicited for continued support and cooperation of particularly the NURTW, police and other agencies as well as road users so as to adopt a collective approach to road traffic maintenance, among others.
He harped on the need for the commission to sustain its slogan of “less corrupt agency” through hard work, dedication, discipline and professionalism, maintaining that henceforth, examinations would be carried out before employment into and promotion in the commission.
The corps marshal who was full praised for the efficiency of the Nasarawa State command as well as the continued support and encouragement of the state government assured of a better lease of life in the years ahead, especially with the conclusion of arrangements for the supply of materials for the production of drivers’ licence and number plates among others.
Earlier, Nasarawa state sector Commander S.A Ajenge commended the corps marshal for embarking on the fact-finding tour and assured that the state command would continue to work hard to ensure effective delivery of service to the people.
She disclosed that already, the state government has commenced the process of remitting the outstanding balance of N9395, 200 million to the commission as confirmed by the state board of internal revenue, but said the command needed vehicles, office accommodation and heavy duty van for towing trucks and rescue equipment to complement its efforts.
