The Acting Executive Director of the Nasarawa State HIV/AIDS Control Agency (NASACA) Mr. Daniel Sagbeda has called on organizations and well spirited individuals to intervene in the plight of people living with the dreaded HIV/AIDs.
The call was made last week in Lafia, at a five day capacity building workshop organised for women living with HIV/AIDS by the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Raliyatu Aliyu Akwe Doma.
According to him, the HIV/AIDS pandemic was posing a challenge to economic and human resources “which in turn was continued to retard most developmental efforts.”
He therefore commended the first lady’s initiative and described the workshop as timely, relevant and a bold step that would complement other efforts geared towards the empowerment of women living with HIV/AIDS in the state.
Most speakers at the workshop which attracted participants from the three senatorial zones of the state were unanimous that the capacity building for women living with HIV/AIDS was timely in view of the identification of poverty as the driving factor leading to the spread of HIV/AIDS and its attendant consequences.
Participants at the skills acquisition workshop which focused on five major areas of needs that include making beads, Vaseline, candles, soap and tie and dye were encouraged to teach others, what they acquired at the workshop so as to achieve the multiplier effects of capacity building of empowering people living with the disease.
