Kogi State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) recently conducted an accountability forum for all the 21 local governments tagged “My vision My Mision” where council chairmen after presenting their score cards were grilled on issues by the eagle eyed journalists which took place at the Lugard road NUJ press center, Lokoja.

Nigeria Newsday noted that most of the council chairmen claimed that they have achieved tremendously. To prove their stands, the chairmen came to the NUJ secretariat with hordes of party loyalists and supporters who intermittently acknowledged the claims with applause whether true or false.

Most of the council chairmen who are now leading the care-taker committees cashed on the opportunity to canvass for votes as they are also candidates for the forth coming July 26 local government election.

The council bosses who have spent almost five months in office explained that their achievement would see them through in the event of the election. 

The secretary to the state government Hon. Musa Ahmadu who declared open the parley on behalf of the government stated that the present administration led by Alhaji Ibrahim Idris is very much committed to accountability, rule of law and due process.

Hon Ahamdu maintained that the present government would not tolerate any form of indiscipline especially from those entrusted with governance at all levels.

While assuring the people of equitable distribution of socio-economic amenities, the SSG solicited for loyalty and cooperation to the government and the ruling party the P.D.P.

On their parts the caretaker committee chairmen explained that they have performed and any person who has contrary view should voice out.

Earlier in his welcome address the state chairman of Kogi State council of NUJ, Alhaji Ibrahim Amoka said that the forum was organized for the people to know what their leaders have been doing.

Amoka explained that the press has the duty to inform, educate and entertain the people and as such in collaboration with the state governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, the forum was put in place.

The one week programme witnessed the thronging in of party supporters and well wishers of the chairmen to the NUJ secretariat.
