Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State has been commended for his support towards ensuring the recent accreditation of the school of nursing Lafia, by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NSMCN).

This was contained in a press release signed by the Nasarawa State chairman of  National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Comrade Obadiah Aver and made available to Nigerian Newsday.

Comrade Aver said the provision of basic learning facilities at the school which facilitated the accreditation of the school deserved commendation.

He however, appealed to the state government to ensure an improvement in the welfare of staff of the institution so as to motivate more performance.

He also called on the state government to ensure speedy completion of the institution’s permanent site so as to have a conducive learning environment.

The NANNM chairman stressed the need for merits in admitting students into the school as according to him, the idea of quota system has yielded only negative results.

It would be recalled that admission into the school was suspended in the last two years for lack of basic learning facilities as required by the Nursing and Midwifery council.

However, the state government in its resolve to strengthen health care delivery in the state, provided the needed funds and facilities for the accreditation of the school.
