Governor Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State, has won the Independent Television (AIT) and Project For Excellence (PFE) Award for the Best Performing Governor in Northern Nigeria.
The award was conferred on him in Kaduna over the weekend in recognition of his development efforts in the state in the areas of electricity supply, water supply and road construction.
He won the overall award due to his reputation for being the
first governor in the North to constructively show purposeful leadership and
concern for the welfare of his people.
Within his first year in office, Governor Doma has flagged off six major road constructionion projects worth N16 billion and six water projects worth over N2 billion.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Doma expressed gratitude to AIT and PFE for instituting the award and ensuring that winners were determined objectively.
According to him, by depending on the views and judgements of the individual states to choose the winners, they have made "the joy of the awardees sweeter and more rewarding".
He said the exercise did not only confer honour on the awardees, but brought out the essence of development and the imperatives of service to the people as examplified by the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
He added that the special recognition accorded them by virtue of the award would inspire them to double their efforts in the provision of purposeful leadership to the people.
