The Arewa G-19 states forum has commended the Federal Government over the establishment of rural electrification agency under the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) for its effort in giving light to rural areas across Nigeria.

The group noted in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Kano and Secretary, Comrade Danjuma Kaltungo, that the agency has within the short time of establishment, recorded significant achievements. The forum however, urged the agency not to relent in its efforts.

Arewa G-19 states forum then called for a total overhaul of the nation’s power sector in order for Nigeria to attract foreign investors. “Adequate electricity supply in the 774 local government areas in Nigerian will enhance rural development, empower youths and consequently prevent rural – urban migration,” the forum noted.

The forum appealed to the Federal Government to give adequate funds and working tools to the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to enhance its service delivery saying “Nigeria needs electricity in order to attain the Millennium Development Goals.
