Over N75m worth of instructional materials have been procured by the Plateau State government for distribution to public primary schools in the state.
Deputy governor and commissioner for education in the state, Mrs. Pauline Tallen while flagging-off the distribution of the materials last Wednesday said the gesture was in fulfillment of the government’s commitment to human resources development and education in line with the 10 - point agenda of Governor Jang administration.
Mrs. Tallen, however, charged education secretaries in the seventeen local government area in the state to ensure that the materials reached the designated areas and the listed schools, saying government will closely monitor the the distribution exercise.
Meanwhile, the state government has called on the Nigerian Union Of Teachers, NUT and its members in the state to consider the efforts being made by the government to improve the welfare of teachers and revamp the fallen standard of education in the state.
According to Tallen, government efforts include the payment of back log of salaries and leave grant and payment of special teachers responsibility allowances as well as the payment of special subvention to the zonal and area directors in the state.
The state government made this statement while reacting to the commencement of three days warning strike by the NUT last week.
Speaking through the permanent secretary in the ministry of education, Wakdum Gowalk, the Plateau State government urged teachers to reciprocate government gesture by adopting other majors of resolving their grievances rather than embarking on strike.
