The teachers in the six area council of the federal capital territory have urged the authorities of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to deem it necessary to pay their monetization arrears which suffered neglect for along period of time now.

This was made known during the interactive forum between the teachers and the officials of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) FCT wing which took place at the Gifted Secondary School Gwagwalada recently.

Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Hassan Jibril ensured the teachers that efforts would be intensified to arrest some of the pending issues affecting tutors in the federal capital territory.

Mr. Jibril said that the leadership of Nigeria Union of Teachers in the FCT would deem it fit to put smiles on the faces of the teachers in the area of their welfare in order to put in their best at work.

He further said that the present leadership of NUT in the federal capital territory would try as much as possible to see that the teacher demands are channeled to the appropriate authorities for the overall development of the union.

He also called on the teachers to confront the leadership of NUT anytime of the day whenever they have problems in their working places and warned the teachers against rumour-mongering.

The FCT chairman of NUT, however, advised the tutors to be dedicated and committed to their work and urged them to co-operate and support the present administration of NUT so as to enable the officials of the union to fight for their pressing demands whenever the need arises.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Gwagwalada Area Council branch of the federal capital territory, Comrade Yaqub Muhammed .J urged the officials of the union as well as the teachers to come together to foster unity and cooperation in the union.

Comrade Muhammad expressed with dismay the way UBEB, SEB, DPI and AME were removing the teachers rent salary anyhow and asked the leadership of NUT to do something about it to arrest the situation.

His words: “The teachers are currently on one loan or the other, ranging from laptop, NUT and even in our various banks. Where this policy exist in other parastatals their salaries are better and the workers are paid up front and not the government subjecting them to forceful contribution, we are therefore saying that this policy is not acceptable by us, if the government cannot pay the teachers upfront they should leave our salary as it use to be”.

The chairman NUT Gwagwalada branch appealed to the teachers in the area to be patience over their loan programme, saying that the matter would be looked into. The forum featured questions, answers, suggestions as well as advice by the gathering.
