Rural dwellers have been called upon to always use insecticide treated mosquitoes nets if they must be free from malaria.

The coordinator, roll-back malaria in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Hadiza Ramalan, made the call recently in an interview with Nigerian Newsday in her office in Wamba.

Hajiya Ramalan said if people should avoid being infected with malaria, adequate measures must be taken against mosquito bites.

The coordinator noted that the treated insecticide nets given to the people at the rural areas free by government were not being used, advising that the nets were not made to be kept away but meant to be used to reduce the incidence of malaria.

She noted that women and children were the most vulnerable groups for malaria attack and advised that more attention should be given to them, adding that malaria kills faster than HIV/AIDS.

She also called on rural communities to always keep their environment clean from dirt, and stagnant water and always clear the bushes around them.

Hajiya Ramalan advised the people to visit the nearest health clinic when sick, so as to receive prompt medical attention.
