The Abuja chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), is set to flag off its normal monthly reading session. Prince Jerry S. Adesewo, the Publicity Secretary of the association, who spoke to our correspondent, explained that the chapter’s inability to hold meetings in the past two months was due to series literary activities which welcomed it into office.

"The last two months have been very busy and packed full of activities for us. We assumed office in April, right in the middle of the month-long activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of Chinua Achebe's classical novel, Things Fall Apart. We have been involved in series of other literary events since assuming office, like the celebrations of the 2008 World Book and Copyright Day and the Read Campaign Dinner by the Ministry of Education. We also recently, in collaboration with The Booksellers Limited, commemorated the Children's Day 2008" he recounted.

The flag off which will be performed by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Jerry Anthony Agada, with Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde, the Jamb Registrar and Chief Executive as Special Guest of Honour, will hold at the impressive Nicon Luxury Hotel (former LeMeridien) on Thursday June 26, 2008, by 4:20 pm.

The special reading will feature two poets, Ahmed Maiwada and Professor Tunde Adeniran (a former Minister of Education) on the rostrum, who will read from their recent works, while other writers and guests will also take up impromptu readings. Children writers from schools are also expected to participate in the event.
