National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned the general public to desist from patronizing unregistered products.

NAFDAC North West zonal head, Kaduna, Mr. Adedeji Akinwumi who gave the warning recently at a press conference in Kaduna, alerted the public of the presence of fake and unregistered brands of mosquito coils in the market.

He said these brands of mosquito coils were not only injurious to health but also unsafe “as analysis carried out by his agency has shown that these products did not meet the requirements.”

The zonal head named some of these fake mosquito coils as Goldeer mosquito coil, High Quality black mosquito repellent incence and Top quality black mosquito repellent, among others.

Mr. Akinwumi said most of these fake products were smuggled into the country from China through the border with Niger Republic.

According to him, the fake products could easily be identified due to the fact that they don’t have NAFDAC number, batch number, date of manufacture nor expiry date.

He then advised the general public not only to be aware of these brands and other similar ones but to report to the nearest NAFDAC office where ever such fake products are found.

Mr. Akinwumi assured that NAFDAC on its part would continue to work harder with a view to doing away with fake and unregistered products in the country.

ACF advises Niger-Delta people against militancy

By Awele E. Esumeh

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on the people of the Niger-Delta region to embark on constructive engagements with the rest of the country in order to improve their standards of living.

While appreciating the pains and hardship that have been inflicted on the people of the Niger-Delta due to long period of environmental degradation from oil exploration, the ACF however said “militancy was not the solution to the problems” of the area.

The ACF stated these views in a communiqué issued at the end of the third meeting of its National Working Committee which held at its headquarters in Kaduna, recently.

According to the ACF, “militant resurgence has never been a solution for such problems anywhere,” pointing out that insecurity from violent militants is capable of scaring away investors form the country.

ACF also appealed to the federal government to ensure security of lives and properties within the national boundary.

On the controversies surrounding the oversight functions of the National Assembly, the ACF noted that “no price is too great for the eradication of corruption in the polity” and that it supported the on-going probes by the National Assembly.

On the current food crisis, the ACF suggested that rather than spend N80 billion to import rice, the federal government should invest the money in farming within the country.

The forum noted that given the general scarcity of rice in the world market, it would take a long time for such import to arrive the country.
