Govt assures farmers of adequate fertilizer

Nasarawa State deputy governor, Chief John Michael Abdul, has reiterated the state government’s resolve to ensure that fertilizer reached every rural farmern the state at an affordable rate.
Chief Abdul stated this while addressing districts and wards heads at the Oriye Rindre’s palace in Wamba, Gom Mama and Farin Ruwa recently, saying, “government is giving out the fertilizer to the farmers at a subsidized rate of N1,800 per bag.
He said that the distribution of the fertilizer in the state would be monitored at every level by persons appointed by the government, with a view to making sure that the fertilizer got to the farmer at the grassroot.
The deputy governor stated that the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, was concerned about the rising cost of food items in the state, adding that the government would ecourage local farmers to produce more food this farming season.
Speaking at the occasion vein, the commissioner for agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Iyimoga, said that state, local government and ward committees were constituted to ensure that the fertilizer got to the farmers in the rural areas.
He urged the farmers to reciprocate government’s gesture by paying for the fertilizer promptly and making judicious use of it for greater yield.
The Oriye Rindre, Alhaji Lawal Nagogo, in his remark, promised the government that the product would get to the farmers in his area, advising farmers to be prudent in their spendings.
Alhaji Nagogo thanked the state government for boosting the morale of farmers by providing fertilizer for them at a reduced rate, assuring that the farmers would not disappoint the government at the end of the farming season.
