Primary Health Care Workers in all local government areas of Nasarawa state have been warned to desist from any act capable of jeopardizing the medical profession.

The state commissioner for health, Mallam Abubakar Sarki Dahiru gave the warning at the commissioning of the Model Primary Health Care Centre built by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) in Wamba Local Government Area of the state, last week.

The commissioner said the state ministry would not allow any illegal practice by unqualified medical personnel who could ruin the profession.

Mallam Dahiru then charged all professionals to exhibit a high sense of professionalism, dedication, sincerity and commitment to their duties.

He called on the authorities of the local government areas to post only qualified, competent and uncompromising personnel who could manage heath facilities as well as maintain good human relationship with patients.

Commending the effort of the NPHCDA for extending health progress to rural communities, the commissioner said that the effort of the agency was in line with the state government’s desire to provide basic health care to the people of the state.

He said that arrangements have been finalized to complete the construction of Wamba General Hospital.

Earlier, the Director of Personnel Management (DPM), Wamba Local Government Council Mrs Julie B. Ibrahim noted that primary health care had as direct bearing on reduction of Malaria, child mortality, improved maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS and other related diseases.

Mrs Ibrahim said that as part of the effort to improve and access primary health care services to the people, they deployed skilled staff to the centre, provided temporary water storage facility, electrified the centre, provided treated mosquitoes bed-nets and drugs shelves among others.
