The Deputy Director National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nasarawa state, Chief Richard Abimiku B. Audu had called on Nigerians to believe in themselves for the advancement of the country.

In an interview with Nigerian Newsday in Lafia recently, Chief Audu said it was only when Nigerians believed in themselves that the greatness of the country could be realised.

He said it was disheartening the way some Nigerians accept self defeat by being too pessimistic and critical about the country.

According to him the country has the potential to grow into a developed nation which he said can only be done by Nigerians themselves.

Chief Audu said this was why the NOA was up and doing in giving Nigerians the right attitude towards making the nation truly great.

He said when Nigerians have the right orientation in doing things right, such attitudinal change would serve as a vital instrument for positive change.

On what the agency has been able to do in inculcating the right way of doing things into Nigerians, Chief Audu said the agency has carried out aggressive campaigns down to the grassroots on a number of issues.

He said the agency has been able to convince majority of Nigerians that politics for instance, was not a do or die affair and that was why electioneering campaigns by politicians and real elections have been relatively peaceful in the country compared to what the case was some years back.

He said the agency was also doing its best to creating awareness particularly among the grassroots people on the importance of girl- child education, HIV/AIDs, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) among others.

Chief Audu said the country’s democracy can only grow when Nigerians know what “democracy” is and the principles on which it was built upon.

He then commended the Aliyu Akwe Doma-led administration for awarding contracts for opening up rural roads.

He then assured of his agency’s readiness to continue to mediate between the governed and the governor for the good governance of the state.
