The chairman of Jama’a Local Government Council, Barrister Gideon Yakubu Morik, has warned that he would not condone any act of diversion or hoarding of fertilizer meant for farmers in the area.

The chairman stated this recently during the flag-off ceremony of 2008 fertilizer sales at the local government secretariat in Kafanchan.

Morik said the commodity was procured to be sold directly to peasant farmers and that middlemen should not be involved in any way in the distribution of the commodity.

He added that any person found trying to sabotage the efforts would face the wrath of the law.

Also speaking, the head of agriculture and natural resources department, Mr. Timothy Moti, commended the council for procuring enough fertilizer for the farmers.

In another development, the National Butchers Association of Nigeria, Kafanchan Branch has elected new officials to run its affairs for the next two years.

In a keenly contested election, which took place at the Star Cinema, Kafanchan last week, Malam Yahaya Makadi emerged the chairman while Malam Samaila Labaran won the seat of the secretary.

Others included Uba Ibrahim as vice chairman, Yusuf Goma as assistant secretary, Abubakar Madaki, Treasurer, Dantala Mohammed as organizing secretary, Sani Mohammed Yakubu as financial secretary, Abubakar Ibrahim as auditor and Mohammed Chindo Mohammed as the public relations officer.

Delivering a brief address after the election, the new chairman, Malam Yahaya Makadi promised that he was going to run an open door policy.

He, therefore, urged all the butchers in Kafanchan and its environs to live peacefully with one another and with their customers.

Malam Makadi then commended the elders among the butchers in Kafanchan for their constant concern and guidance to the youth, which he said, has led to the great achievements the union had attained so far.
