For failing to appear before it after raising ‘false’ alarm on impeachment moves against governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, the state House of Assembly has ordered for the immediate arrest of the state commissioner of information and communications, Mr. Nuhu Gagara.

The assembly members, after a heated argument on the floor of the assembly, refused to allow the ministry’s permanent secretary, Mr. Ezekiel Dalyop to address them ostensibly on why his commissioner was absent.

It would be recalled that, Mr Gagara had in a recent interview with newsmen, allegded that the government was aware of plots to impeach governor Jang by forces using the lawmakers for that purpose.

The assembly members who resumed sitting last week summoned the commissioner to come before them and substantiate his claim, arguing that unless that was done, the credibility of the house and its members would be at stake.

According to them, the commissioner has succeeded in inciting the public against them adding that for ridiculing them, he must come and confirm to the state and the nation where he got his information regarding his claim.

In raising the motion for the arrest, the commissioner’s member representing Bokkos state constituency, Hon. Samuel Damulak said it was a sad day for the lawmakers not only in Plateau State but the nation as a whole to be so insulted by the commissioner who refused to appear before the house after a summon to that effect.

While seconding the motion, the member representing Jos South West Constituency, Hon. Yakubu Choji added that the commissioner has indicted all the members with that false alarm, saying “how can we now antagonize the government we help put in place? He must come and clear the air for the benefit of peace and unity in the state”.

The few members who had tried to put a word of reason as to allow the permanent secretary say his mission, ended up compounding the problems of the commissioner as they were asked to apologize at certain stages by the worried majority.

Meanwhile, the state assembly has assured that it would continue to uphold the tenets and principles of democracy and good governance in the state, which they stressed, had suffered countless setbacks.

Addressing a press conference to mark the house one year of legislation in the state, the house committee chairman on information, Hon. Emmanuel Danboyi Jugul said they were ready to partner with governor Jang in his bid to transform the state for the better.
