The Federal Capital Territory election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, has upheld the victory of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate, Honourable Isah Dara of Bwari Area council in the April 14, 2007 election.
The chairman of the tribunal, Mrs. Ramatu Shehu gave the judgment after series of proceedings on the petition filed by the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate Malam Isah Yahaya alleging irregularities in the council poll which led to the emergence of Honourable Isah Dara as chairman.
She explained that the issues of impersonation, thuggery and election rigging which was presented by the petitioner in the tribunal was dismissed because the petitioner failed to give enough evidence to prove the allegation.
In an interview in the court premises in Abuja, the chairman of Bwari Area council in the FCT, Honourable Isah Dara expressed happiness over the judgement, saying “that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man”.
Honourable Dara called on the political opponent to join hands with him to move Bwari Area Council to a greater height, saying that “politics is not a do or die affair”.
He said that with the victory in the tribunal, his administration would continue to focus on developmental projects in the area and provide the desired dividends of democracy to the people.
The Bwari Council chairman, however, advised the people to live in peace with one another and shun any act capable of causing crisis in the area.
