Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma has charged public institutions in Nasarawa State to develop the maintenance culture. The Governor gave the challenge while commissioning offices for various departments of Government in Lafia as part of activities marking the First Year anniversary of the Administration.

 The projects which included the Head Office of the State Water Board; the office complex for Special Advisers and the State Planning Commission Headquarters, were all undertaken as part of the Governor’s pledge to complete all on-going projects that were inherited from the previous administration and that have direct bearing to his 13-point agenda.

On the need to complete the Water Board Headquarters, Governor Doma said the provision of water was critical to human life and directly related to the Administration’s rural and urban renewal programmes. This informed the award of contracts by the Administration for the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing water supply schemes in Lafia, Doma, Keana, Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga and and Nasarawa, as well as the provision of motorized boreholes in various locations in our rural areas.

Speaking about Special Advisers, the Governor said they were veritable think tanks in the process of governance. He therefore hoped that with the completion of their office complex, the Special Advisers will continue to give the required quality advice in the management of Government affairs.

The other building which was commissioned was the Headquarters building of the State Planning Commission. The Commission, according Governor Doma, is charged with the responsibility of coordinating government development plans.

Governor Aliyu Doma used the occasion to announce that plans were underway to build a central State Secretariat in order to provide a coordinated and conducive working environment for public servants.

Meanwhile activities marking the First Year Anniversary of Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma as Governor of Nasarawa State have continued in Lafia. Today’s activities included the commissioning of the Conference hotel constructed by the Nasarawa State Investments and Property Development Company (NIPDC) Ltd.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma stated that the initiative of the Board and Management of the NIPDC in conceiving and financing the construction of the project is commendable and a challenge to other government owned companies.

The Governor used to the occasion to appeal to indigenous private sector players to follow the footsteps of the NIPDC by investing in the hospitality industry. In the same vein, the Governor assured prospective investors who have so far indicated interest in partnering with Government in development, of Government commitment to encourage them.

It will be recalled that the NIPDC constructed the hotel from its internally generated funds and it has become one of the imposing edifices in the State capital.
